One of their programs is Operation Christmas Child, which was started in 1990 in Romania. Every November, many many churches, groups and individuals prepare and collect shoe boxes filled with toys, art and school supplies, personal items, and other small gifts. A booklet of bible stories is often placed inside the shoe boxes which are given to children based on need , without regard to their faith. These boxes are then distributed overseas by volunteers. Operation Christmas Child delivers more than 10 million shoe box gifts to poor children in more than 100 countries each year.
